When I was little, I seldom to received pocket money from my parents, and I gave my children their pocket money every week.

Do you give your children pocket money or wait for a special treat?

I did get pocket money whilst growing up, but it was only after I had done some chores around the house -- other times, my dad'd spoil me and give me money whenever I was broke. (IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

As I don't have my own children yet -- I do give my step kids some money...although not that much as hubby and I can hardly afford to splurge on the kids due to their expensive tastes and desires.
Their Mum and step father spoil them rotten. Son got a jeep (supposed to go for his driver license soon, only 16), new computer, etc. Daughter got her nose and belly button pierced and she's only 14!

I got a weekly allowance as long as I did my chores. My kids, same thing. It wasn't much but it was enough! Then when I went to TSD, my "allowance" continued much to my brother's chagrin. He said, "but she has no chores" and mom said, oh yes she does! The dorm houseparents kept us busy all the time!

My Blog

I got an allowance as a child but I never learned to save it...it burned a hole in my pocket!! My kids get a small allowance each wek and they have to save 25% of it...my son hates it but at least it teaches him how to save!

I had weekly allowance when I was old enough to do the chores around the house and many times, did extras without asking so I can get more money. When I started babysitting for neighbors' kids...Mom wanted to eliminated my weekly allowance as she thought it would be unfair that I would get more money than her. Dad gave her allowance plus grocery money. She never worked outside of home. Well, I told her that would be fine as I don't have to do the chores anymore! (IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) She gave in. (IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) They have borrowed some money from me for some emergencies which they paid me back later. I learned alot about the values of money and am very proud of it. I did the same for my boys and now, my grandkids are learning, too.
