When I had the chance to register to vote with my county's Election Commission last Monday, my voter registration form for Tennessee did not state which political party you would register to vote in.

If my memory served me, when I registered to vote in California, I had to declare if I was registering as either Democratic, Republican, Green, Independent and other political parties, I registered myself as a Democrat there on the California voter registration form.

In Tennessee, I was not required to declare my political party affiliation when I filled out my form. That makes me wonder how other states handled their voter registrations that way?

I have been registered to vote in the State of Washington for a very long time! And I have never been asked what party I chose. Never! I don't even tell my friends that. And my own children have no idea how I vote. That is the way I like it.

Hawaii, too!

Although in some boards and commissions, you must declare what party you wish to be affiliated with. This is to ensure that all boards and commissions are staffed with appointees from across the political spectrum and not just the "ruling party".
