interesting, but I've a feeling that this is a case where a few loud and vocal (and radical) people are expressing a feeling not shared by most disabled people. but we'll have to wait a decade or so to see if this movement has a true following.

deafgrrl...I have always been of the mindset "let's focus on what you can do, instead of what you can't". That said, I do a lot of service and I can tell you that almost all of the people I have come across that are handicapped (for lack of better word, and to get the point across!) in one way or another would prefer to NOT be handicapped. They lack something in life that had they had would have made life a bit easier. They aren't bitter because of thier lack of ability, BUT I have never seen any of them decide to be "culturally quad", or "culturally amputee", "cuturally (insert your disability here)".

I also greatly anticipate that article. CHristopher Reeves has been heralded for his courage, I really cannot believe someone would have the audacity to call him a whiner. Makes me wonder about the people who did!!!

little pitty and others,

from what i understand, although they seemed disappointed that christopher reeve wanted a cure, they never, never called him a whiner.
