QUOTE
Well, how easy we forget. Yes, Canada is not in Iraq and everyone says how dare Canada not send troops, but want to know what gets on my nerves, the fact that Canada went to Afghanistan in a heart beat, sent an entire regiment, Special Forces and all to get Al Qaida and fight terrorism. Canada also is sending another regiment to Afghanistan this summer. Has many war ships in the Persian sea doing escorts and ship boarding. Canada does not have a force the size of the US or Britain so when we say we can't send troops, we can't. Our boys are stretched to the max with Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan. So when you and everyone else only recognize what's happening in Iraq, and soon have forgotten about our efforts in the fight on terrorism it makes me wonder what is really important to the US, the all out fight on terrorism, or just what the US wants at the moment and nothing else.

Canada said it will help police Iraq, rebuild it, even offered to send the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to help restore order, but it has all fallen on deaf ears. And those ears are only open when it comes to its own self interests. So I say it again, which is more important, a single fight in a country that has not shown much resistance, or the total fight on terrorism no matter were the battlefield may be?

This is based on one person's perspective. I haven't seen Canada proclaim it publicly. If it had, it'd be oibvious.

But no, Mr. Chretien says the opposite and jabs us in the ribs.. I need more proof -- All I have seen in the news runs contrary to what this "ex-soldier" says.

Any other factual news -- OFFICIALLY FROM CANADA ITSELF -- that we can rely on rather than one's "opinion"?

I also read this excerpt on the website:

It never ceases to amaze me, the American double standard. They stiff us on softwood lumber even though they were defeated by the world trade body numerous times. Now they are going after our wheat exports, and as I read in our local St. Catharines Standard, Paul Celucci, American Ambassador to Canada says "We need to change some rules because we need your oil and gas." What hypocrisy. It reminds me of the school yard bully threatening another for his lunch money. I say "bully" because to me that is what the Americans are turning into, bullying the world, and if you don't do as I say I will beat you up. I guess there is no give and take with them, it's all take. Is it any wonder they are disliked throughout the world.

Boo-Hoo is all I can say. Competition is there. Socialism is not a valid option. If you don't like it, tough.

(ahem)

Taz,

It's an open letter, not a factual article or anything like that. Canada do not have to proclaim this "open letter" at all.

If you want to discuss about that other letter, start a new thread. The topic is about the ex-soldier's letter.

Ex-Soldier,

Note the "fallen on deaf ears". I wonder if CNN actually did cover that one.

CBC,
QUOTE
Last week, Prime Minister Jean Chr√ątien said Canada would be willing to send RCMP officers.

Ta-Da, how did that one get there?

Oh right, you don't read Canadian news.

Canoe,
QUOTE
Rumsfeld mentioned Canada in his opening remarks at a Pentagon briefing. "The Canadian minister of defence announced Canada's willingness, beginning in late summer, to commit a battle group and a brigade headquarters to the international security force in Afghanistan for a period of one year," he said.

Guess the ex-soldier wasn't lying then.

Ex-Soldier,
QUOTE
Our boys are stretched to the max with Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan.
They've been in Bosnia for like a decade so far.

Kosovo, they're still there.

Afghanistan, more troops are on the way this summer.

Ex-Soldier,
QUOTE
sent an entire regiment, Special Forces and all to get Al Qaida and fight terrorism.

CTV,
QUOTE
Cmdr. Kelly Williams said he and his crew were fully engaged in their mandate in the Gulf of Oman.

That included boarding ships to look for al-Qaida and Taliban leaders.

"This ship was very, very busy,'' said Williams. "The whole ship was humming for the five months we were in theatre. Were we frustrated or disappointed about the war in Iraq? No. We were busy fulfilling the mandate we were given and I think we did a very good job of that.''

Now, about you...

Simply an assumption. Need more proof please like you asked me for more proof.

REMINDER:

If you want to discuss about that other letter, start a new thread. The topic is about the ex-soldier's letter.
