I was watching the news last night and heard that they raised the terrorist alarm level from *elevated* to *high*.

Now my question is: What are we supposed to do with this tidbit of information? Do you really pay attention to what level they raise it to?

I don't know. I wonder what we're supposed to do with that information. I just blinked and went oh...but of course it affected the sales at the store.

I watched Oprah yesterday. She had a two day program on the probable war in Iraq and yesterday's episode caused me MORE anxiety than the "terrorist alert"... After that episode I wanted to crawl into bed and suck my thumb.

SpeaKing of affecting the sales at the store, here the price of gas went from 1.28 a gallon to 1.59 within 2 days.

YIKES

** that's a little off-topic, but then again, here in DOL that doesn't matter. In another thread we went from being saved from eternal damnation to chocolate...(IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) **

I think the price of gas is on topic- it has to do with the terror alert, don't you think? I haven't noticed the price of gas. Haven't had to get gas yet- Hmmm...

Did anyone see that Oprah thing? GAWD. It was more alarming than anything I've ever seen!

I think the gas stations are going a little overboard with their price increase.

Nope, didn't watch Oprah. Care to go into more detail about the show, Sherry?

Gee where do you guys live?

Gas here went from 1.49 to 1.65 a gal....and Im in a small town in Southern ILL where gas prices dont exactly reflect the rest of the nation...

how much is it in Calif-Tousi? I imagine over $2 already?

as for Oprah...nope not watch her much anymore....her topics dont usually interest me like it used to.

And terrorism alert now at Orange.....heck, I love the color so I guess it's cool! But seriously, I wonder if it is to simply alarm Americans and make them overly aware? What happens when it goes to RED? Should I buy a gun?

Anja:
After reading how bolluxed up our intelligence agencies are (think: Management by Ego)...I don't put much credibility in the Threat Levels any more. I go by the ACTUAL treat level...is there an alQaeda armada heading this way? Has Osama been sighted in Manhattan...posing as a tourist (with plastic surgery a la Jacko)? Until then, somebody should tell Tom Mix...er...Ridge to get off the Chicken Little bandwagon.

Biffsma:
Mauians are SO married to their vehicles - sometimes to the tune of 3-4 vehicles per family!!! We don't have a regular public transportation system (we do, however, have one for seniors and youth that don't have transportation). Oahu has a regular island-wide bus system ($1 per day, unlimited transfers). Once off the bus, bus riders walk to their worksites, sometimes several blocks away from a bus station. However, a majority of them still stick to their cars, hence the horrendous traffic jams in the morning and evening.

Sad for a state that has a fraction of the population of Los Angeles.

I was in San Diego 1 and 1/2 years ago and was floored that then gas prices were nearing 2 bucks a gallon! Can't imagine what they are in sunny Southern Cal right now!
