My Blog

My great-aunt told me once that I have such a positive attitude about myself being deaf...she said people who are shut-ins she keeps in contact with who have nothing wrong with them whine about how lonesome they are or other negative things. I have no reason to feel that way about myself, since being hearing-impaired is part of who I am and I grew up this way since I was a toddler, it is not a bad thing. <smile> I never thought of my hearing aids as a sign of "getting older" or a burden to vanity issues like a lot of older people who had to start out later in life...I think of them as "helpers" and they did help me with my speech and my school years . <smile> I thought those people are silly...but that's just me. <smile> I am just "Nancy", a normal person with very bad hearing. In a forum for blind and VI people, a lot of them said that they are normal people with bad vision or no vision. We have the same hopes, dreams, desires as people who have no impairments. <smile> A disability can discourage a lot of things for a person (like relationships, working environment, getting jobs, etc.), but we should NEVER EVER let it get to us, and to always keep a positive attitude about life. (IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) We even have to work a little harder in life than most people. <smile> Always keep a postive attitude and keep smiling!! Nancy,

That's a great attitude to have (IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I agree that having a positive attitude helps!

(IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I'm glad to hear such postive words. i'm deaf and have always prided myself that I am a very much capable to do anything like hearing people, perhaps more sometimes. (IMG:http://www.deafonline2.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I always view my deafness as a challenge, not a disability or anything in a pitiful sense, to get to the "top."

Being who you are, Nancy, you're going to be successful (or maybe you already are?) and you would be an excellent role model to little deaf children who need to understand that deafness is nothing to be ashamed of, but rather an experience that may help them to percieve the world in a slightly different way.
