Why don't they leave it up to deaf peeps (educated ones) on how to educate the deaf? This is becoming tiring. I can't even remember all the hoops I have been through, just to keep my job at the school!

But definately, you have to be either DEAF or a CODA to uderstand completely.

I am NOT putting anyone down, those like LP and LOML are obviously very much AWARE, and I respect their ability. But how many people can identify with a totally deaf child, one who has never heard anything at all? You have to start with a blank slate!

The school I attended is basically controlled by the Deaf peeps, yet it's not making a difference.

you mean roz rosen? ben Bahan? mj benivenu? I think not.

lets leave it up to researchers who can conduct unbiased research and report what works in providing English-fluency and what doesn't.

(what DOES work according to researchers you may be asking? Cued-speech. what might work? SEE, oral methods et al. what DOESN'T work? ASL.)

After reading about signwriting....I never learned sign language of any kind but this signwriting would look very confusing to deaf/hoh/Deaf kids. After a lot of ponder, I'd think that Deaf teachers cannot really sign or teach as well as Hearing Teacher of Deaf Education can in English Literacy or Reading to deaf/hoh/Deaf kids. Also, there should be every hearing speech therapist in every school to help kids with speech problems! That's my opinion. Due to schools' budget cuts, kids whether deaf/hoh/Deaf or hearing are hurting and there is no easy solutions to it but it's up to the parents to help their kids. I don't mean to say that deaf/Deaf teachers should not teach at all but when it comes to English Literacy or Reading then I think that Hearing Teachers would do a better job. Any comments???

You are right, Fuzzy I recall you had some "great" deaf teachers at WSD that received their Masters on a silver platter, right?

But if deafies cannot do it, who can? One size does not fit all.

We all know that we are in charge of our own destiny. Some residential schools make weaklings out of deafies, while other deafies become stronger (yes, in spite of).
